Why Not Try Kindle Vella?

Publishing in serial format has been around for over one hundred years. One of the first known American works to be published in this manner was Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe (1851).

Since then it has waned in popularity, but lately serial fiction has made a popular comeback with sites like Radish, AnyNovel and Wattpad. One of the newest players in this game is Kindle Vella.

Kindle Vella is Amazon’s answer to serial fiction. The website opened to U.S. residents in July, 2021. Authors can post their work in episodes comprising 600–5000 words. Anyone can publish if they are a US resident. Right now, there isn’t a date set for residents of other countries.

With Kindle Vella, any work that you submit must be original to Kindle Vella.

You can publish your story in full-length novel form after it’s been on Vella for thirty days. You can also publish on other serial platforms as long as your episodes are behind a paywall.

Right now, the pay isn’t great unless you bring a large following with you to the platform. But Amazon is currently handing out bonuses monthly for publishing regularly and getting people to read your stories.
